Richard "Ty" Schafrath
Ty, as he is known, has been an artist for over 25
years. It was in high school in Newbury, Ohio
that Ty realized his talent for drawing.
In 1988, he earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree
with an emphasis in drawing, painting and print-
making from Ohio State University, but a visit to
MGM Studios and the Walt Disney Feature Animation
tour a year later in Orlando would change the
course of his life. With a newfound passion for
animation and a determination to succeed, he returned to Columbus,
Ohio and enrolled at the renowned Columbus College of Art and Design
where he concentrated on figure-drawing, animation and storyboard for
animation.
Ty eventually moved to Hollywood, California where in a very short
period of time he realized his dream. Starting at Nickelodeon Animation
Studios, he began working on "The Angry Beaver's Show". Over the
ensuing years, he would work on other Nickelodeon shows such as "Dora
the Explorer" and "Catdog". He went on to other studios as well. He did
storyboard for Cartoon Network's "Time Squad" and for Focus on the
Family's "Adventures in Odyssey".
While working in Hollywood, he repeatedly volunteered for events such
as Nickelodeon's annual "Big Help", sketching all Nicktoons characters.
He attended nationwide cable tv conventions as a representative for
Nicktoons and MTV Networks on several occasions. He also served as a
mentor for inner-city youth in Los Angeles. Recently, Ty wrapped up
work on Walt Disney's Feature Film "The Princess and the Frog".
Ty has a gift and talent not only as an artist but with people. His passion
is to share his gift with others and make them smile.
